Juniper Barn Café, Village Shop and Self Catering Accommodation in Rendham, Suffolk

Juniper Barn is a café and village shop in the picturesque village of Rendham, in the Alde Valley, Suffolk, an area that is popular with tourists and a favourite for walkers and cyclists.

The café offers a full breakfast menu which is available all day, a tantalising general menu which includes some sharing platters and hearty, warming soups and soul bowls, along with a selection of freshly made cakes, scones and sausage rolls.

Our heated, covered outdoor terrace is a peaceful spot for meeting friends any time of year.

The village shop, which stocks a selection of fresh fruit, vegetables, dairy produce and bread, as well as a range of kitchen staples, provides the village and wider area with a handy place to pop in for essentials. There is also always a good range of gifts and greeting cards.

We have self-catering accommodation for up to 12 guests to the rear of the property, which has been recently refurbished to a very high standard.

With disabled access, baby changing facilities, and water bowls for dogs, we really do give everyone a warm welcome, and that’s why our loyal customers come back time and again.

Juniper Barn is airy and spacious, with an open kitchen, and people come from near and far to relax, meet friends for a coffee, cake and a chat, or to enjoy one of our all day breakfasts or something from our general menu. We have tables inside as well as outside on our heated, covered terrace.

Our breakfasts are generous, and we offer a full English or ‘not so full’ English (a slightly less generous version) and lots of variations on the traditional theme, several vegetarian options, and other more adventurous breakfasts such as Shakshuka, using seasonal, local produce wherever possible.

Our general menu includes sharing platters, soups and soul bowls of tasty stews and curries, many of which are inspired by our travels.

Being enthusiastic supporters of local artists, we exhibit their work on our walls, selling to anyone who wants to buy unique, original art. A new exhibition launches every two months, each with a Meet the Artist evening to mark the start, when we offer complimentary Prosecco and a chance to chat to the new artist on show.

Our café is a hub for creativity and for enjoying life, representing everything creative, artisan and local.

Recipe of the week

Our initiative to both encourage people to share their passion for food or drink, while at the same time helping to raise money for local good causes, is called Juniper Barn's Recipe of the Week. It is all about bringing food, drink and the wider community together through the sharing of recipes that evoke memories, or that were inspired by a particular trip or life event.

You are all invited to make submissions, a selection of which will be included in a Juniper Barn recipe book to be published later this year. The book will be sold in our shop with all profits from sales going towards a local project or cause that will be decided by the Parish Council in Rendham village itself, and announced when the book launches.

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

Rustic Rhubarb Crumble

The first of the season rhubarb is a delight at the moment, super sweet, and by cutting some now it just encourages more to grow so you can enjoy this much maligned plant again and again, throughout the season.

This is a super easy recipe for the children to help out with and a scrummy warm pudding for these still chilly spring evenings – a win win!

Our self-catering accommodation to the rear of the café comprises two separate properties – Church Farm House and Church Farm Studio – which together can sleep up to 12 guests.

Church Farm Studio can accommodate two people, and has a fully equipped kitchen and dining area, double bedroom and large bathroom. There is an uninterrupted view over the pretty neighbouring churchyard.

Church Farm House, part of which dates to the 15th century, offers five double bedrooms and three bathrooms, with one of the bedrooms and one of the bathrooms being on the ground floor for easy access. The whole house has recently undergone a comprehensive refurbishment, giving it a contemporary style, which perfectly complements the original period features.

Situated 2 miles off the A12 on the B1119 between Saxmundham and Framlingham in the village of Rendham, we are an ideal base to explore the Suffolk coast, enjoy events at Snape Maltings, festivals in Southwold, or just enjoy the charms of the peaceful Alde Valley.

Delicious food and a warm welcome. What’s not to like? Greeted warmly by staff who throughout were friendly and attentive. They were very welcoming to our lab who loved the attention. Cooked Brekky was delicious which we had on the terrace. Toilet was spotless. Would definitely return.
